Animal
Name: Clarence
Common Name: Siberian Tiger
Scientific Name: Panthera
tigris altaica
Classification: Feline
Color Morph: Standard ( Orange/Black/White)
Date of Birth: 12-3-96
Gender: Male
Birth Weight: 1.9 lbs
Eye Color: Golden Yellow
Companion (s): Gypsy
Personality: Clarence is
by far the most mellow tempered tiger (and cat) housed at the Sanctuary!
With most tigers, males have a tenancy to have better dispositions
then that of the females. With Clarence this fact is undoubtedly
clear. Clarence will allow his keepers to do almost anything to
and around him. He is so gentle and mellow that we actually clean
his habitat while he is still inside. Clarence is truly a spectacular
animal to work with! A real GENTLE GIANT!
Point of Interest: Clarence
is big! Very big! We estimate is weight to be between Six and Seven
hundred pounds. As with all the felines housed at the Sanctuary,
we keep Clarence on the lean side. It would be no problem for us
to increase his weight another 150 pounds. Unfortunately, that would
be extremely unhealthy. In captivity, it is crucial to avoid obesity!
For this reason, part of normal tiger husbandry practices is to
periodically fast them. Think about this. In the wild, tigers do
not successfully kill there prey on every hunt. The norm in the
wild is feast or famine. For millions of years tigers have evolved
to survive this way. As with people, an overweight animal is not
a healthy animal.

Animal
Name: Gypsy
Common Name: Siberian Tiger
Scientific Name: Panthera
tigris altaica
Classification:
Feline
Color Morph: Standard ( Orange/Black/White)
Date of Birth: 6/10/98
Gender: Female
Birth Weight: 1.4 lbs.
Eye Color: Golden Yellow
Companion (s): Clarence
Personality: Gypsy is an
angel! An extremely loving and affectionate female tiger. Gypsy
is very used to interaction with her human keepers.
Point of Interest: If you
have a very keen eye, you will notice something very unusual about
Gypsy! If you look straight at her face head on; you will notice
that the inside of Gypsy's right ear is black while the left is
white. This is a very rare physical tiger trait. The normal color
pattern found in the inside of a tigers ear is all white. You know
what they say, "No two tigers are exactly the same". This
is very apparent with Gypsy.
