Dave is building a total of 8 concrete, hurricane-safe, protective shelters to withstand a powerful category 5 hurricane. The prototype example shows the planned quonset hut shape of this structure that will be fortified much like a military bunker. Construction is planned to commence sometime in August 2006. Estimated cost for each structure is approximately $4,000.00 even with some volunteer labor and donated materials. Each of the 8 structures will be large enough to house any of the big cats. Dave plans to build ample ventilation and safe portals for the animals so they have plenty of light and so that he can monitor them during and after a severe storm. The concrete will be reinforced with steel rods that will be secured and attached undergound.

The safety and well-being of these amazing creatures is our top priority here. While donating to something like construction may not seem very exciting at face value, this is one of the single most important Special Projects to date.
