Hello Everyone! Quick update here before I get knocked off by lightning storms tonight. Dave and Otter John prepared all day today for the arrival of Hurricane Fay which is bearing down upon South Florida now. Technically I believe we have downgraded to Tropical Storm but it is a wide spread storm carrying tons of water. Dave's friends in the Florida Keys had winds of 70 mph and were pelted with rain now having 8-12" of standing water.
Fay is moving northeast at 8-15 mph and the outbands of rain have already been soaking us all day. I spoke earlier this evening to Dave and he is still down from previous lightning strike on his home computer and the T1 lines are down now (cam viewing). The animals have all been secured, the Black & White Lemurs are in the house, the other animals are all either crated, in barns or their secure switching stations. Dave was soaking wet most all day and tired. John's Otters are safe, his Cougar crated and the tortoises are inside.
I know they have been busy and working really hard and of course they wanted to get an update to you so you would know the animals are safe.
This storm although 70-80 mph winds and lots of water is nothing like a Category 3-4 or 5 Hurricane but they carry heavy lighting and always the threat of spin-off tornadoes. They are powerful storms and Dave said to tell you he will be glad to take this one as is as a strike in lieu of what could have been. He reminded me that most of his trees that could come down already did when TigerHomes Sanctuary was hit by Katrina & Wilma.
Sure miss you guys Miss the "gang" and the old days will become our new days just wait and see ~! We have some pretty impressive animals counting on us. Do what you can, if you can, I know that they & Dave would appreciate the help.
Sending before it is gone....

Hey Cathy! Great to hear from you! I've been keeping an eye on the weather down there as I have some people down that way that I speak to on a regular basis and I have to say, that Fay does sound nasty! I've been offline since last Friday with the move and all and just came back up and this is the first place I came to check on. All you guys are in my thoughts and prayers. Please give Dave our best and let him now that we're thinking of you guys and missing you much! Take care and be safe!! **Smiles** _________________ Every little bit, DOES help, often in a BIG way. ~kitty24~ |

thanks kitty for the thoughts & prayers. Hope your move is going well. I know that can be a big job as well as an adventure. No word yet from several of our members WE HAVE BEEN MISSIN' all the way around.
Hopefully, Dave will have some good news for the Sanctuary soon. He is working on plans that will further the long term goals of education and increasing conservation awareness for the magnificent animals in his charge at TigerHomes. Hopefully, also we can gain member participation even if just to stop by here and say hello. You can be sure it is hard on Dave to see everyone going silent. As soon as he is back on a computer - he will be checking in himself I am sure.
Hurricane Fay was a wet, wide berth storm bringing tons of rain but thankfully here, no flooding this time. Poor folks in Melbourne, Fl got 20-26" of rain with torrential downpours & massive flooding. I am sure you have seen the news & the State of Emergency declared there. On the plus side Lake Okeechobee has gained much needed freshwater reserve with the water table level rising near 2' from Hurricane Fay.
I sure hope that we will find some level of understanding someday for TigerHomes' need to go into "survival mode" BIG TIME. Maybe all the King's Horses & All the King's Men can pull TigerHomes together again.... A little support & long needed sponsorship would go a LONGGGGG WAY right about now If Polar Bears can survive on ice floes for periods of near a year now trying make it, we humans can find a way to help the animals who share our planet. Nature gives us every lesson we ever need should we decide not to turn away.
It is disheartening that the Cams are down now... have faith, it will be back and when it is it will be better than ever. Many thanks to everyone stopping by to check in ~ to our old friends & new. We can go twice as far when we all pull forward together

Am sending a donation today I know it is only a drop compared to what he really needs but a drop is better than nothing.
All the best to you all over there _________________ I think everything has the right to live and breath where ever and what ever they are

Wow! First Fay and now gustav. Looks like you guys got lots of rain from Fay? Did the sanctuary and dave get all the rains as well? Got fingers crossed on the next one and watching it big time. Florida or New Orleans do not need another Katrina! Would love to get an update from you Cathy or Jason when you get the time that is. _________________ Every little bit, DOES help, often in a BIG way. ~kitty24~

Hey ive just been checking on the proposed path of Gustav and it looks like its going to be missing Florida if they are correct so Im relieved about that I see there is another called Hanna that is more or less heading your way but they seem to think by the time it hits land it will have died out I just hope these weather predictions are right and you all stay safe down there _________________ I think everything has the right to live and breath where ever and what ever they are

Been watching the station down in louisiana live on the pc and keeping an eye on you guys too. Said you're getting lots of rain and possible tornadoes. hope and pray all is okay and you're all safe. Started to call TD, but didn't want to bother him 'cause I know you guys are all really busy. Hoping for an update as soon as you guys are able.
Thinking about you all and hope you're safe! _________________ Every little bit, DOES help, often in a BIG way. ~kitty24~ |

Thanks for coming on Cathy its a relief to here all is well so far but have seen on the UK News today about Hanna and Ike they both look like big nasty weathers and Hanna is causing death and distruction already but the view of Ike from a space satellite is the most worrying it is showing as something so huge its incredible so my thoughts and prayers are with you all in Florida and in fact anywhere the Hurricanes are striking your part of the world sure gets some horrible weather at this time of they year. And they seem to be getting worse each year it makes me wonder is this a natural growth or could it be another cause of Global warming ???
Well anyway I hope and pray you all stay safe and that the animals are all well and dry. If one day we get to actually see them all again it will be a dream come true _________________ I think everything has the right to live and breath where ever and what ever they are

Hello everyone. Whewwwww and a big sigh of relief for all of South Florida with the Hurricane activity being pelted this way, one after the other. Being a dartboard for these arrows is not fun for anyone in the trajectory field and so far 2008 is proving an active Hurricane Season. Peak of Hurricane Season is historically around Sept 10th and we are just about there.
Thank goodness New Orleans was spared catastrophic damage from Hurricane Gustav. We are sure feeling right now for the people in the Turks & Caicos Islands as Hurricane Ike scored in as a Category 4. Hurricane Ike is still packing powerful winds for those in Cuba with the storm making landfall now.
Sanctuary notes - from what I understand Dave had been going full throttle to secure the animals first of all. Otter John was helping with getting ready for crating and shoring up as Hurricane Ike was pointed directly towards us. Then Dave was helping Frank to build crates to secure his animals, and Jason was ready if needed. It is a great thing the way these guys band together to help each other everyday or when an emergency rises. Prayers answered - every update moved the headwinds south just a little more until South Florida was out of major harms way.
We may experience some rain & weather turbulence over the next few days but we were spared the deadly wrath of Hurricane Ike.
Dave is just back from making a trip with Murf to Gainesville to take care of the Northern properties. While they were there he helped put in 600' of fencing around Murf's parent's home. Sorry to say here locally, the T1 line remains down until the Sanctuary can finally come through with some funding support. Also, Dave still has not been able to replace his computer that was struck by lightning last month so he is stuck without his email or posting capabilities for now.
Please keep your fingers crossed & keep saying your prayers.

Thanks so much Cathy for keeping us in touch with things. I am hoping and praying you are all still ok as I see Ike missed you but they are saying the heavy rains could cause some flooding so hope all the animals are still safe and dry as well as all you Humans
As today is such a sad day as well I would just like to add on here that my thoughts a prayers go out to all the people affected by the 9/11 disaster and pray nothing like it ever has the chance to happen again _________________ I think everything has the right to live and breath where ever and what ever they are
