Well wanted you all to know I still have not fixed and rip off and put a new roof on my house yet but that is all in the works now ! My good friend Murf is going to help me and we order all the material yesterday and applied for the permits ! As you know it's close to hurricane season and also our rains so i can't wait any longer and with my knee surgery i been putting it off and of course the MONEY also been a problem ! The shingles we order are really good and rated at sustain 90 mile an hour winds which is not the best but meets all the codes and are made to last for 40 years here ! I have a huge roof so this will be alot of work and will make me one tired Play Doh Baby roofer ! LOL ! First we have to strip it down to the plywood and then dry it in with heavy tar paper rolls of felt with tin caps with nails and then the shingles goes down so this will take some time and back breaking work but I am excited to get it done ! hehe !
And by the way the Knee is doing good i have some pain but it's very very little and I am moving around like normal so it has heal right up ! And yes I been very pleased with the surgery and the Dr. ! Matter of fact I did not go for the last check up last week but talk to him and he can't beleave how soon I was back to normal and without therapy ! (well never been really normal ! LOL )
Still have a ton of clean up left and still need to fix all the fencing which I will try and do in the next couple of months if i get the money ! The property is looking really good and what left to clean up are all alone the east side and the south side on the property line with huge trees and palms to chainsaw and haul away !!!

That's great, TigerDave! Glad you have healed up nicely! Some good news I was reading the other day from the hurricane center in Miami, they are saying this hurricane season should be NO way near as active as last year! That's some good news. They say the warm water conditions are just not there this year.......and that is some good news for you guys! I know, one hurricane can be just as devastating as 10 hurricanes can be, but just wanted to share some of that news that I was reading! _________________ Every little bit, DOES help, often in a BIG way. ~kitty24~ |

Well it is that time of year.... 2006 HURRICANE SEASON is HERE
We have our first named Tropical Storm of the year - ALBERTO. It is still offshore and predicted to be a very wet storm carrying lots of rain. Wind force is not expected to develop signficantly for an upgrade on the Saffir-Simpson scale to warrant a Hurricane warning. Tropical Storm warnings have been issued for portions of Florida's Gulf Coast.
I tell you what - you read NOAA's updates and see things like this:
...."ELONGATED LOWER-TROPOSPHERIC VORTICITY MAXIMUM THAT
SPREADS ACROSS FLORIDA WITH A NON-TROPICAL-LOOKING AMPLIFICATION NEAR THE NORTHEASTERN PART OF THE STATE."
AND YOU PRAY A LITTLE It has been raining here all day already.
Here's the link to the National Hurricane Center for those who want to bookmark it for this Season:
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/
It has also been a little while since we have a post here in this Hurricane thread. Hard to believe Hurricane season is already upon us when there is still a lot of repair work left for Dave to take care of from last year's storms. Face it - they got hammered two times - Katrina & Wilma sure left their calling cards at the Sanctuary. Roofing, fencing, lighting, cams & wiring are still needed. We all need to help a little to get things 100% to get ready. We also need to get concrete bunkers for ALL the BIG CATS which I believe Dave has on his "never-ending" schedule & wish list.
Now is the time to help if you can. If we all do a little..... it will MEAN A LOT to Dave, TigerHomes and the ANIMALS

Tigerdave,
I am praying for the best this season. I just woke up from a bad dream about a hurricane coming (but not a big bad one).
I wish I can do more for you all. I have already told some people about this site and will do my best to let others know.
12 days into the hurricane seanson and already our first named storm
I hope you get all you need done in time. I'm glad you are feeling better with your knee. _________________ Jennifer |

Well have just been watching the Cams and it looks like you have had a lucky time of it with Alberto Dave as although it looks rather muddy the winds seem to have eased off. Yesterday I must say the winds looked rather strong on the Cams and the weather reports had me a bit worried that it might hit you as a hurricane but thank goodness it didnt happen. _________________ I think everything has the right to live and breath where ever and what ever they are

| that storm was nowhere near me ! it was hitting north Fl on the west coast we got some of the rains and a little bit of wind but nothing at all !!! Always remember I am south south Fl so this storm did nothing here and was not even close to bothering the Sanctuary ! I will for sure always report if I feel the Sanctuary is in any danger ! I did not even watch this one at all so if I don't worry you guys don't have to worry !!! hehe !!! |

I'm so happy it didn't come to us here in south florida. I am really close to the sanctuary. Let's pray they stay away from us this year. We all need to recoup from last year and still so much repairing to get done. _________________ Jennifer |

you are so right about that !!!
Yes you are so close to me about an hour or less !
It is our season again but that does not mean they are going to hit us again like last year 2 storms and follow those same paths !!! So this is a watch and wait but i never panic or worry until the last day or so when you can really tell what they are going to do !!! i been here my whole life so I am real aware of them and am always ready for the worst but I don't get all freaked out and just go with the flow ! I will be putting a brand new roof on my house the weekend of the 23 of June and already have all the material to do so on the roof now !!! Yes I can also play roofer with the help of Murf and Brock and we will do all the work ourselves and start about 6am on Sat. ripping the old off and Sunday dry the roof back in and then the following weekend we will shingle it with 40 year shingles that will withstand 90 to 100 mile an hour wind for many hours before they start to peel off ! They make a better one which is twice as much that are rated at 125 130 mile an hour but at that rate your windows blow in and shudders come flying off anyway !!! hehe !!! So Murf and Brock are happy with these and these are friends of mine for years that are also Contract builder in Dade County so I am in GREAT hands !!! |

5:30 a.m. - the best part of the day as everything is nice and quiet
I remember when we had our new roof put on a few years ago and didn't envy those guys at all - hot, back breaking work for sure You know what we're gonna say - be careful, drink lots of water, sunscreen & so on. Hope all goes according to plan with this project, Roofer Dave.

| this will not be easy but we will do it in one day ! I have Murf and his Son Mike and of coures Greg my yard man and 2 guys from my brother landscape company plus me so that's 6 of us which Murf will be in charge of ! hehe ! I went and got us the roofing shovels and got a huge dumpsters and 10 gallions of water with ice and we have all the material including nail guns and compressors and felt so we are ready to rock ! Now we will not shingle it that will be next week but we will rip off the old and replace rotted plywood if there is any and dry it in all tomorrow ! And yes we have tarps just in case of rain but they are saying sunny and hot in the 90s with little chance of rain ! And by the way I have NEVER used sun block so that is not on the list but a long sleave shirt is and jeans and sunglasses ! hehe ! |
