Hurricane Wilma Caused Widespread Damage Throughout the Sanctuary.
Update 10/31/05 Pictures Added / Damage Assessment Continues
All of the Animals are Safe and Secure
Thanks to Dave's amazing work anticipating and prepping for this powerful Category 3 hurricane all the Sanctuary residents are safe and secure. Unfortunately the intense winds caused widespread damage to most of the Sanctuary grounds adding to the damage that Katrina already caused.

The Beautiful Tropical Canopy No Longer Exists
Probably the most shocking aspect of this storm's damage is the amount of tropical foliage/trees that Wilma practically erased. It will literally take years to re-grow the dense tropical canopy that once provided much needed shade for all the animals.
Infrastructure Damage / No Power
The Sanctuary does not have any power. Dave is now assessing power-line issues, tangled and broken webcam cables, broken habitat water-lines, and many other crucial aspects to the Sanctuary operation that are in need of immediate repair. Update: Thanks to a tremendously appreciated donation from Todd at Unique Marine the Sanctuary now has a quality generator to use until power is completely restored. This generator is crucial for keeping the freezers running that store food for the animals.
Perimeter Fencing
To the south, major portions of the Sanctuary's double-perimeter security fence have been completely knocked-down and ripped away from the concrete footing that once held it in place. In addition to south-side fencing, the Sanctuary's main gate was torn from its tracks and tossed nearly 50 feet across the road! It has been reset for now but will have to be replaced soon.
A Word to Our Members

We know a lot of you followed this storm with as much attention as we did. Please continue to help us as we move into full recovery and cleanup phase.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
For those of you who may have missed it, Hurricane Katrina caused extensive damage within the Sanctuary and work isn't even close to being finished here. We estimate habitat repairs and tree clearing will continue well into January 2006.
