News for the month of September 2003
Can You Say UPGRADE! Physical and Mental Environments
With out doubt, one of David and I's favorite
things in the world is when we improve both the physical
and mental environments of the
animals we care for and call family. September was significant in
the fact that we TOTALLY upgraded Clarence and Gypsy's habitat. Not
like their previous habitat was not awesome in every way. Change
in habitat design is a fantastic form of enrichment, so David and
I constantly strive to make these improvements when possible. This
month we went overboard! We relocated Clarence and Gypsy to an ?Off
Camera? habitat and opened up a 20ft section of sidewall in their
habitat. This opening aloud us to bring in heavy equipment to not
only completely re-arrange over 12 tons of boulders, but to carry
and install some extremely large and heavy tropical palm trees. Their
environment got an ?Extreme Makeover? that even Oprah herself would
be proud of. Of course we had to polish off the makeover by adding
multiple pallets of beautiful green grass threw out. Needless to
say, their habitat looks fantastic!
The moment Clarence and Gypsy were returned you could almost
feel their excitement! Nothing makes us happier then seeing
our animals ?Think?! A ?Thinking Animal?, is an ?Enriched Animal?.
The cats experienced a new feel under their paws, new smells,
and new obstructions to hide behind and climb! The list of
enrichments can go and on after a habitat makeover like this.
We try to keep things changing. It may not be as drastic as
bringing in heavy equipment to redecorate, but we are always
thinking of stimulating ways to make our residents use their
brain and ?Think?! If you want to help, feel free to make a
purchase or donation from the Sanctuary GIFT SHOP. Your help
is always appreciated. Stay on line and on the Sanctuary cams
as not to miss a thing.
Remember, there are many ways to help the cause. Here
are a few.
1) Tell everyone you know about the website. By increasing the number of visitors,
we increase the awareness of the danger these wonderful creatures face.
2) If you have a website, link to us - http://www.tigerhomes.org/
3) Submit our site http://www.tigerhomes.org/ to
any webcam sites you may visit.
4) Make a donation to the sanctuary. There is an area on the gift shop for those
who want to contribute.
5) Purchase items from the gift
shop. They make great gifts and are for a worthy
cause.
6) Adopt a pet.
It's a
great
way
to
virtually
own
one
of the sanctuary animals.

Remember, our main mission is to spread an interest in saving
wild animals and wild places but we can't do it alone.
