Did you know that Pet Reptiles kept indoors require special Reptile Lighting that simulates the sun to survive and live healthy? The wavelength of these lights is critical to help Indoor Reptiles process their Calcium levels and Vitamin D1 levels. Some reptiles will even refuse to eat without proper Reptile Sun Lamps installed in their Artificial Habitats. The lack of Calcium and D1 in reptiles often causes and or complicates Metabolic Bone Disease known as MBD. Metabolic Bone Disease In Reptiles is extremely common especially in tortoises as calcium is often robbed from Shell Production. In many cases poor or improper lighting is the culprit of MBD. A wide variety of specialized Reptile Lights are available from Reptile Supply Companies, Pet Stores and even some Reptile Breeders or Reptile Dealers. Unfortunately, these Mini Sun Lights are expensive and typically need to be replaced every 6 months even though they appear to be producing high quality Visible Light! Apparently the wavelength of light important to help the reptiles process Vitamin D1 degrades over time, usually 6 months. By the way, placing your Reptile Cage near a window does not work either as it filters out the UVB SPECTRUM so important to Healthy Reptiles.
